An object appears to be of a certain colour depending on the amount of light reflected by it for eg white colour reflects all the light falling on it thus appears to be white. This could be the most bland and uninteresitng definition of colour, ironical to what colour stands for ..rich and vibrant.
Sun is yellow, sky is blue. Had they not been of this colour ? Had everything been black and white? There would be no rainbow, boys would not fight for blue and lil girls would not want their rooms to be pink, there would be no dilemma to select the colour of a dress...you can either go with black or white, there would not be festival of colours HOLI.
There were many firsts this Holi. This was my first Holi at Bangalore. I dont know how many more to come. I hope the count is less. For the first time I played Holi with my new found friends. For the first time i had a bath twice :X and played till 5 in the evening.
When i think of this...memories of playing Holi as kids flashes back. One week prior to the date of Holi mom will start all the preperations...sev, namkeen, papad, namak paare, meethe paare chips...or aunty chips as all my friends called it...everyday we came back from school and one delicacy was there on the table. One day before gujia and nairyal ki barfi was prepared. Didi, daai and mom used to prepare gujias and i was not allowed to be part of the process being the youngest.
All the kids of the colony were enaged in cleaning and decorating the premises for the Holika dahen. At night what ever be the time ..be it 9 in the evening or 4 in the morning all of us used to be wide awake for the grand finale. Buying colours and pichkaaris used to another important tasks to be done
Next day my holi would obviously start from Shuchi's house, playing with her cousins. Vicky's papa would prepare special samosas and chhole for all of us.
So you think ...if there had been no colours you would not be reading this becasue i would not have been writing this.
Have you ever thought that why are colours associated with joy and happiness ? Why are black and white not?
